First

The east coast weather is having a mid-life crisis. I am not complaining though because I have loved the warmer days. It’s still cool enough to wear a jacket, but not so much that you walk outside and immediately lose feeling in your extremities. And considering that last year the weather was all SNOWMAGEDDON – I’m not looking a (weather) gift horse in the mouth.

In January I committed to not buying any new nail polish, makeup or clothes. By and large, I was a success. A few times I stumbled, but given how much I’ve shopped in recent months – I consider it a major victory. Even though I wasn’t 100% successful, even having the pause before buying things was a big deal. Need versus want is something I’m going to ask myself and I’m definitely setting a monthly fun budget going forward and absolutely sticking to it.

To ease the pain (ha!) of not shopping – I tried to wear something new from my closet every day that I got dressed in January which I accomplished 52% of the time. I am going to try to continue this movement into February since I (shamefully) still have unworn clothes in my closet. It’s not that I don’t love my clothes, it’s just that there are so many of them, that sometimes it’s easier to get dressed with old faithfuls than it is to think about something new. If that entire paragraph is not the truest essence of first world problems, I don’t know what is. I am so thankful.

Also, Happy Black History Month!
