#20 Elevator Speech

“If you had 30-90 seconds to describe yourself (give an elevator speech), how would you sum up who you are?”

Hi, stranger – isn’t it so weird how elevator rides are so short and yet so awkward? Am I right, or am I right? I’m C, I’m an awesome wife, good sibling and a pretty ok friend. Oh, I also love music, kids & cheese.

#21 Guilty Pleasures

“What guilty pleasure have you embraced this year? What have you just accepted as something you enjoy and stopped denying it? What do you enjoy that would surprise people that know you?”

Pop music. I’m not defending what I like. I love (x a bajilion) pop music & for so long I was apologetic about that love, but I don’t care. What moves you, moves you – and what moves me, moves me. Besides that, there should be no guilt in pleasure. What makes you happy should only bring you equal feelings of joy.

#22 Identify The Problem

“Today, take a few minutes to ponder that one little, nagging issue that, if solved or eliminated, would make your life better. Perhaps, getting up five minutes earlier would make your life easier. Maybe smiling at that one coworker that drives you crazy would ease the tension. What small change in your life would or could make a big difference?”

I have absolutely, positively, unequivocally got to learn to say no. It’s so hard for me because at my core I am a people pleaser. But sometimes, no is the right thing to say because otherwise I compromise my own happiness for that of others which really does no good for anyone.

#23 Today Is All You Have

It’s true, today is all you have, so why not make the most of it? Describe your perfect day, one that you’ve had this year or one that you’d like to have next year. What makes it perfect for you?

The day we came back from Ethiopia was probably my most perfect day. We landed pretty much on time, sailed through customs, luggage came out early on the carousel. Our friends met us at the airport, we hung out for a bit, laughed a lot & then we hung out with my nieces and family the rest of the day. Fell into bed & waxed nostalgic about missing Ethiopia. I am at my best surrounded by people I love and care about – so that day to me stands out. Particularly spending time with my youngest niece who I hadn’t seen in a long while. She cuddled with me, held my hand and was generally her awesome self. I’ll never forget those moments. Never.
