I'm typing this from a Starbucks where I am enjoying my last 180° skim caramel macchiato and a rice dream bar (the Starbucks equivalent to a rice krispie treat). Tomorrow is the beginning of Lent. You can read more about what Lent represents over here.
I don't necessarily consider myself to be "religious", but I believe in God and I go to church every once and again. Something about the sacrifice, of giving something up that you perceive as valuable for 40 days really appeals to me and so this year – I'm going vegan for Lent, which I talked about a little last week.
Lent lasts 40 days and while that's a relatively short amount of time – going vegan is a big undertaking. Since I announced it, I've been overwhelmed by how divisive the reaction has been. People are either overwhelming supportive or they reject everything about it.
I'm not "worried" about it, but I think planning is going to be key to the success of the whole affair. If you have any meals that you love that are vegan, or any resources – I'd love to have them. I will definitely be writing about the experience complete with temptations, recipes and everything in between. Pray for me and if you're not into that kind of thing – wish me luck!
