Whenever I get to talk to someone who is older and has been married for a long time – I always, always ask them how they do it. I always joke that forever is a long time, and it is – but marriage should make forever go by pretty quick. Or at least that's what I think at this point in time. So, I always inquire – what's the key, why and how did you stay together?

Yesterday I spoke to a lady who lived on a little ranch in Texas with her husband of 62 years. That's a six and a two. And of course, I had to ask. And in the most charming little accent she told me – it's not difficult, that you just really need three things; love, patience and forgiveness. She said the latter was the most important because sometimes in life, we think that some things are just completely insurmountable – but in a marriage, they have to be in order to succeed.

It made me smile to hear, and I made sure to write it down so that I could remember it. Forever's a long time, I can use all the help I can get :)
