The Name Game

By the time March 19th rolls around, I will have been married for seven years. It feels like five minutes, but I'm guessing that's actually a good thing? Today, I officially took my husband's last name.

I wasn't holding out for any reason that's valid or controversial, it's just that typically within his culture (Ethiopian), the women keep their names and the children take the father's first name as their last.

I didn't think that I would feel any kind of way about changing it, but it makes me feel a little sentimental really. I'm so happy to be married to this guy! Yes, exclamation point and all. It's not always shiny and happy, but at the end of the day – he makes me a better version of myself. For that, I am entirely thankful and so happy to share a last name with him.
